Col. Mike Sullivan
Mike Sullivan joined the Franklin Resources Group in
2000 after retiring from the Department of Public
Safety after nearly thirty-four years of public
service. Appointed Assistant Director of the
Department in 1995 by Governor Fob James, he later was
appointed as Acting Director in 1999 by Governor Don
Siegelman.
During his career which started as a State Trooper
Cadet, Mike attained the highest merit rank in the
Department, that of State Trooper Major. He served as
a Division Chief over driver’s license and the Alabama
Bureau of Investigations. He was appointed Assistant
Director in 1999 by Governor Don Siegelman.
Throughout his career in law enforcement Mike has
worked extensively with the Alabama legislature. He
was assigned as liaison representing the Department of
Public Safety with the legislature as well as local,
state and federal governmental agencies.
Mike is a graduate of Auburn University of Montgomery
where he received a BS and MS in Criminal Justice. He
is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the
U.S. Air Force Marksmanship Instructor School, the
U.S. Army Military Police School, the U.S. Army
Polygraph Examiners School, and numerous law
enforcement and management training courses. Mike
retired from the Alabama Army National Guard with the
rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 after serving over
twenty-five years in the guard.
Mike has always been an advocate for the mentally and
physically challenged persons. He has an adult son
that is Downs Syndrome. Mike has served in varying
capacities with groups representing the interests of
special people in our communities. He currently serves
as President of the Montgomery Association of Retarded
Citizens (MARC) and treasurer of the Alabama
Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC). Being the
community oriented person Mike is involved in schools,
youth groups and civic leadership organizations.
In 1976 Mike was selected by the Alabama Jaycees as
the Outstanding Young Law Enforcement Officer on the
local and state level.
Mike is an avid Alabama fan having served as security
for the University of Alabama football team that
spanned over eighteen years and four head football
coaches.
Mikes’ professional expertise and his personal
qualities of diplomatic skills, common sense, wisdom,
wit and loyalty make him a valuable member of our
team.
